This extraordinary colour (Sunshine Yellow) might best be described as Egg Yoke Yellow and was similar to the PO corporate yellow used on their vans. The dial version was soon replaced with fully electronic circuitry with keypad and tone ringer.

The Ambassador also became the basis for a range of key systems, designed to replace the previous miscellany of multi-line plan sets and key & lamp units.

Designed by BT and produced by GEC in 1981, the Ambassador, originally known as the New Generation Telephone, was intended to be the flagship business phone, with a number of variants available. However, it was first produced as a traditional phone with dial, mechanical bell and passive transmission components, as shown in the second image above.
