This phone, designed and built by the Post Office, was introduced in 1977 and is now best remembered in the guise above, as the Jubilee phone in Balmoral Blue to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee of that year. It was designed to fit better in modern homes on narrow window ledges and reverted to the 200 type concept with a separate bellset. It was not very popular, probably because its very old-fashioned design concept looked odd in the emerging era of the ‘designer telephone’ – the Special Range Telephones came the year after. As the telephone ‘came in from the cold’ – traditionally it had been installed in hallways – the need for a phone to sit on a narrow window ledge or shelf was reducing.
