Introduced in 1937, the 302 can be seen as the counterpart of the British 300 type telephone of 1936. The body was made of steel, however, and the case was much smaller than the UK 300 type as the integral bell was much more compact.
During the war-time, the pressure on the production of metal caused the phone to be switched to an all plastic construction.
